As we are about to embark on a new school year, I am delighted to welcome one another. I sincerely thank everyone I have met thus far - the School Board, Administration, members of the faculty and staff, and the few students and parents I have had the privilege of meeting - not only for your genuine and heartfelt welcome but for making me feel at home from the first moment. As the faculty and staff came to school to prepare for an incredible new school year, they brought with them positive energy, enthusiasm, and a genuine commitment to our students - from veteran teachers to those who are just beginning. I am overjoyed and honored to have met the outstanding leaders in the Student Council, who gave their valuable time before the beginning of the school year to show their love, appreciation, and respect. The future is bright. I am so looking forward to meeting and getting to know all our students, parents, families, faculty, staff, and community at large. I also look forward to reconnecting with those whom I have known and cherished for years, my former students who are now parents, and others.
The leadership of AGBU MDS has done an amazing job at creating an outstanding school that we will now build upon together moving forward. Armenian schools are special places. In addition to offering a quality education in the traditional sense, here we endeavor together to instill in our students a sense of belonging and ownership of their rich Armenian heritage and to help in the formation of positive and productive citizens of their school, the Armenian community, and the community at large. From here, they emerge as amazing Armenian Americans and citizens of the world - young and caring individuals who make a difference in their local communities, the United States, Armenia, Artsakh, and the world.
Thank you for the honor and privilege of being your partner in raising your children. School is not simply a dress rehearsal for life - it IS life. Fundamental to our children’s ultimate success is an authentic and organic development and nurturing of their intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. This can be accomplished optimally when the child, the family, and the school work together with commitment inspired by a positive spirit of possibility. Sharing an entire philosophy of schooling and raising children would fill volumes; this introduction is neither the time nor place for this. Over the coming days, weeks, months, and years, we will work together toward the realization of the potential of each of our most precious assets, our children. Together, we are fully invested in their becoming outstanding human beings.
At AGBU MDS, we have the wonderful perspective of following children along a crucial span of their developmental trajectory, from 18 months to 18 years old, each stage having its own set of milestones, sensitivities, vulnerabilities, and opportunities. Every child is an individual, a universe unto himself or herself. We are all here to help them become the best versions of themselves. I look forward to connecting with all as we begin this beautiful journey together.
