Music and movement improve children's memory, cognitive development, learning skills and expressive ability. Music has the ability to strengthen the connection between the body and brain to work together as a team and gives children an early love and passion for language that will form a solid foundation to value learning.
In preschool all students are introduced to a variety of instruments, including traditional Armenian instruments. They also learn to sing age appropriate songs in both English and Armenian. Students perform these songs, during assemblies, holiday performances, and their end of year performance.
Designed to instill an appreciation for and enjoyment of music through exposure to a variety of musical genres, all students in elementary school have weekly music classes, during which they learn about both the history of music and to sing a variety of songs, including traditional Armenian songs. In addition to their music classes, students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of programs, performances, and assemblies.
History and Influence of Music is available to middle school students. This course is designed to explore the genre of rock and roll music in the 20th and 21st centuries and how rock has both reflected and impacted historical events nationally and globally.
Music Appreciation for 9th grade students provides an introduction to the elements, vocabulary, history, and development of music in Western civilization. There is also a music lab component in which students are asked to choose an instrument (piano or guitar) and learn to play beginning to advanced level songs. Students will additionally have solo recital opportunities.
